ARI KAMO, PE
A seasoned and well-respected expert in the construction and engineering industry, Ari Kamo parlayed his years of trade experience into the creation of his own company in 2008.
Since inception, the business provided NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)-mandated inspection services for hundreds projects and has become one of New York City’s leading Special Inspection/Progress Inspection agencies.
A professional engineer with a background in architectural engineering, Ari’s career has embraced all aspects of construction practices in the building industry, from project management, construction cost-estimating and architectural layout to engineering design and DOB systems-filing and signoff procedures.
The Pennsylvania State University graduate takes great pride in his company’s reputation of uncompromising integrity and reliability, ensuring that every regulated component of an installation satisfies DOB and other New York City regulations, while helping to keep demanding construction schedules on track.

JONATHAN DA SILVA JOHRDEN, PE
Lead MEP Design Engineer
Jonathan Da Silva Johrden is the Lead MEP Design Engineer at AK Engineering with experience in alternative energy system design and management, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, sprinkler systems, emergency and standby generators, and full building designs.
With a background in mechanical engineering and focus on energy engineering, Jonathan’s career has embraced all aspects of MEP design and sustainability in the building industry; from design engineer, special inspector, project manager, energy auditor, micro-cogeneration and solar photovoltaic designs, DOB filings, DEP filings, to benchmarking, and MEP commissioning.
Jonathan began learning MEP and power generation design while attending the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where he completed his bachelor’s in 2010. Jonathan completed his master’s degree in energy management from NYIT in 2012, with a focus on sustainable MEP design.
Jonathan’s professional accreditations include: Professional Engineer (PE); License to Practice Engineering in New York State; Certified Energy Manager (CEM) of the Association of Energy Engineers, “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) Green Associate, Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 10 (Construction Safety and Health) Certification.
Mechanical Engineer / Field Inspector
Patrick Ng is a mechanical engineer with experience in energy systems and management, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and sprinkler-system design, and more.
As an AK Engineering field inspector he oversees construction projects by inspecting installations, recording progress and ensuring that work and materials satisfy Building Code requirements.
Patrick began learning about HVAC design and power generation while attending the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where he is a spring 2015 candidate for a master’s degree in energy management. He graduated NYIT in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. While an undergraduate student, he participated in numerous interdisciplinary activities, including the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon and the USS Intrepid Pavilion-design competition, which helped propel him into the building-systems industry.
Patrick maintains certifications as an ICC Certified Commercial Mechanical Inspector (CMI), an ICC Certified Masonry Inspector and an ICC Certified Grade I Concrete Inspector. He has also completed OSHA 10 Training.
Civil Engineer / Field Inspector
Donna Barden is a civil engineer with a background in site design, geotechnical and environmental engineering, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. As an AK Engineering field inspector, she visits construction sites to review work in progress as she inspects materials and installation methods. Donna further endeavors to ensure Building-Code compliance by expertly integrating the efforts of field and design teams. She competently coordinates the interests of contractors, vendors and consultants while monitoring issues of non-compliance and keeping project schedules on pace.
Donna is a candidate for professional engineer’s licensure and is certified as an Engineer in Training (EIT) by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Donna also maintains a certifications as an ICC Certified Commercial Mechanical Inspector (CMI) and an ICC Certified Masonry Inspector and has completed OSHA 40 Training.
Mechanical Engineer/ Field Inspector
Molly Glenn is a mechanical engineer with first-hand experience in designing HVAC systems. Her work as an AK Engineering field inspector takes her to constructions sites, where she monitors materials and installation procedures for adherence to the New York City Building Code, and expertly guides clients toward correcting issues of non-compliance.
Like all AK Engineering team members, Molly is skilled in inspections as well as working with contractors, vendors and consultants to ensure that demanding project schedules remain on track.
Molly has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Rochester (New York). She also maintains a certification as an ICC Certified Commercial Mechanical Inspector (CMI) and has completed OSHA 10 Training.
Director of Operations
Adam manages operations at AK Engineering by coordinating the various departments in the organization. He oversees the day to day activities, manages the inspection calendar and dispatches all special inspectors. In addition, he analyzes and monitors the internal processes of the company and implements procedural changes as necessary to improve operational efficiency.
Adam’s past experience as a director of operations in the lighting & energy efficiency industry has played a huge role in the success of AK Engineering’s operations. Adam earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing/Management at Touro College in Queens, NY. Adam is also certified as a Notary Public of New York State and has completed the OSHA 10 training course.
Meranda helps keep AK Engineering’s office operations running smoothly by managing all administrative procedures. She proficiently handles all proposal requests, manages accounting and ensures that all DOB/New York City-required filings are expeditiously submitted, processed and monitored.
